Scott Riehl brings thirty years of direct issue advocacy, legal and legislative staff experience to his role as Founder and Principal of the Riehl Group.
For 13 years, Riehl represented the consumer products industry, most recently as a member of the senior staff at the Grocery Manufacturers Association where he was vice president of state government affairs and associate counsel. In this role, Riehl is credited for building and leading one of the most dynamic and successful state affairs teams representing any aspect of industry.
Riehl is widely-recognized as one of the most effective industry representatives possessing the rare ability to seamlessly traverse between the decision makers in the European Union, Washington and K Street, to policy leaders in each of the 50 states. Riehl has developed trusted bipartisan relationships internationally and at all levels of government, providing his clients with strategic winning solutions that approach problem-solving in a balanced, non-partisan and holistic manner.
Prior to GMA, Riehl served as a vice president at Stateside Associates, a full service state legislative tracking company, where he was a member of the senior staff and provided direct political consultation for numerous fortune 500 companies and DC-based trade associations.
In the legal and state legislature arenas, Riehl worked in the Washington, DC office of Seyfarth, Shaw, Fairweather and Geraldson, where he specialized in the firm’s government and defense contracts practice. Prior to that, he was on the staff of the Michigan Attorney General. Riehl began his career in the Michigan Senate, where he served as counsel and chief legislative aide for two Michigan state senators.
